Soccer + Zombies = Goal Of The Dead

With the World Cup in full swing, what could be more appropriate than mixing soccer and zombies together?  Here's a look at Goal of the Dead, the French horror comedy directed by Thierry Poiraud and Benjamin Rocher, and starring Alban Lenoir, Charlie Bruneau, Tiphaine Daviot, and Ahmed Sylla.

"First half: For the Olympique de Paris soccer team, this away match scheduled against Caplongue was merely supposed to be one last chore before the end of the professional season. Yet no one could ever have imagined that an unknown rabies-like infection was going to spread like wildfire, turning this small town’s inhabitants into ultra-violent and highly contagious creatures.
For Samuel, the former golden boy who is nearing retirement, Idriss, the arrogant wunderkind, Coubert, the team’s depressed coach and Solène, the young ambitious journalist, this will turn into the most important confrontation of their lives.

Second half: While the rabid supporters prowl about Caplongue, which is in a state of ruin, another nightmare begins for Sam. Barricaded in the police station with other survivors, he has to face the young Cléo, his grumpy father, and Solène, who hasn't forgotten him this time. Meanwhile, Idriss and Marco, hidden in the stadium and looking for a way to escape, are also settling a few scores along the way."

Goal of the Dead was released in France on February 17, 2014. A North American release is still to be determined.

Morgan Freeman Narrates The Zombie Apocalypse

For his show on the Science Channel, Through The Wormhole, Morgan takes on the living dead in an episode called "Is A Zombie Apocalypse Possible?".

"It is a nightmare that has stalked us for centuries: hordes of human beings transformed into mindless, cannibalistic monsters. Could this civilization-ending nightmare become reality? Scientists have discovered pathogens that turn insects into the walking dead. New strains of viruses are attacking humans every day. Mathematicians have calculated the likelihood of surviving a zombie virus outbreak: they’re not hopeful. Now neuroscientists are discovering how easy it is for us to lose conscious control of our bodies. Are we at risk of becoming puppets? If we were in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, would we even know it?"

Through The Wormhole airs on the Science Channel on Wednesdays at 10pm ET.

Zombieworld Deadline Is Tomorrow!

if you have not entered your zombie short already, the deadline to submit your film for consideration for inclusion in the Dread Central / Ruthless Pictures anthology film Zombieworld is tomorrow, June 20, 2014.

Submit your film here: SUBMIT WHILE YOU CAN!

From the official press release:

Image Entertainment, an RLJ Entertainment (NASDAQ: RLJE) brand, has acquired Ruthless Pictures' no-holds-barred zombie fest ZOMBIEWORLD, in association with DreadCentral.com. Image Entertainment’s Vice President of Acquisition Mark Ward made the announcement today.

“We’re eager to distribute this project because it embodies what independent filmmaking is all about: passion and creativity,” said Ward. “We’re always looking for new talent, and ZOMBIEWORLD takes storytelling to a new level that horror fans will not only enjoy but also surely rally around and support.”

ZOMBIEWORLD is a horror anthology focusing on survivors across the world as they struggle to overcome horrifying circumstances when a pandemic brings forth a zombie apocalypse. The collection of blood, guts, and mayhem will be brought to life by a group of new and up-and-coming directors from around the world that Ruthless Pictures and Dread Central will handpick from short film entries received between April 21 and June 20, 2014, on Dread Central.com. The work of each chosen director will be featured in the film and will bring his or her take to a world now populated with flesh-eating corpses. Among the brilliant shorts to be included in ZOMBIEWORLD is Peter Horn and Jared Marshall’s "Dark Times," a blood-splattered scamper through the woods shot entirely in POV, where zombies, aliens, and even Santa Claus make an appearance.

“As a fan of the zombie genre, I’m thrilled to be part of this film,” said Ruthless Pictures producer Jesse Baget. “ZOMBIEWORLD will showcase the unique visions of young talented filmmakers and inject fresh new blood into the genre.”

“Jesse Baget and Ruthless Pictures burst onto the scene, opening big doors for young filmmakers,” said Dread Central’s Steve Barton. “Dread Central has always been an incredibly indie-friendly site among the major genre outlets, and we’re excited to help give up-and-coming filmmakers a platform to get noticed. Image Entertainment is a go-to source for quality horror entertainment, and with Image ZOMBIEWORLD will have the opportunity to be shown worldwide.”

The deal was negotiated by Image Entertainment’s Jess De Leo and Grace Feeney and Jesse Baget on behalf of the filmmakers.
