Syfy's Z Nation Gets A Promo Trailer

The old saying goes "don't throw the baby out with the bath water."

That is unless the baby is a zombie. And that is exactly what we get in Syfy's exciting promo for Z Nation, their new zombie series. You just can't go wrong with zombie babies.

Produced by the Asylum, the same company behind Sharknado, Z Nation presents us with the aftermath of an extinction level event that has turned most of the world's population into zombies. There is no cure for what turned the infected but our heroes, played by Tom Everett Scott, Harold Perrineau, and DJ Qualls, come across the only person known to have survived a bite from a zombie.

Their mission: get him across the country to a lab in California.  Alive, of course, but it won't be an easy road trip with a nation of zombies in the way.

Z Nation launches in September.

New On DVD: The Complete Blind Dead Saga

New this week from Blue Underground is The Complete Blind Dead Saga, a four disc set that includes The Tombs of the Blind Dead, Return of the Evil Dead, The Ghost Galleon, and Night of the Seagulls, all directed by Amando de Ossorio.

From Blue Underground synopsis for the set:

TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD:
In 1971, director Amando de Ossorio created what horror fans worldwide consider to be Spain's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. In Ossorio's nightmare vision, a legion of Knights Templar - executed horsemen whose eyes had been pecked out by crows - rise rotting from their graves, hunting only by sound in a quest for human flesh. The BLIND DEAD saga begins here, as a modern-day tourist trip to the ruins of the Templar monastery unleashes a frenzy of lesbian desire, sexual violence and the unholy onslaught of the eyeless undead!

RETURN OF THE EVIL DEAD:
In this second startling film in the BLIND DEAD series, writer/director Amando de Ossorio returns to the horrific origin of the depraved Templar: heretic knights whose eyes were burned out by medieval vigilantes to prevent them from finding their way back from Hell. Now on the 500th anniversary of their execution, the blind horsemen rise from their tombs to wreak bloody revenge on the town that condemned them. Tony Kendall (WHEN THE SCREAMING STOPS), Frank Brana (PIECES) and Lone Fleming (TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD) star in this chilling sequel that rocked the EuroHorror genre!

THE GHOST GALLEON:
In what many fans consider the most surprising of the four films in the series, Maria Perschy (CASTLE OF FU MANCHU) and Jack Taylor (EUGENIE) star in writer/director Amando de Ossorio's chilling tale about a boatload of stranded swimsuit models who discover a mysterious ghost ship. But this phantom galleon carries the coffins of the satanic Templar, eyeless zombies who hunt humans by sound. Even if these frightened lovelies can survive their own forbidden desires, will they escape the insatiable hunger of the BLIND DEAD?

NIGHT OF THE SEAGULLS:
The classic saga of the BLIND DEAD ends with the creepy tale of a remote coastal town where frightened villagers must sacrifice beautiful virgins to the blood cult of the Knights Templar. For seven nights every seven years, these eyeless zombies rise from the sea to feast on human flesh as the souls of the damned are trapped in the screams of gulls. In this final unforgettable shocker from writer/director Amando de Ossorio, the mood is darker, the fear is stronger and the hunger of the Templar more ferocious than ever before!

Extras consist mostly of trailers, poster galleries, and still galleries.

The Complete Blind Dead Saga is available now on DVD.

Kickstarter: Under The Flesh #1

It's time to break out the wallet to help kickstart Under The Flesh, a new zombie comic book that the creator is describing as "a Grindhouse mashup of Captain America, Y: The Last Man, and The Walking Dead."

It looks like they put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into completing the first issue, both literally and figuratively, and now they need a little help in getting it printed.

"UTF is set in a post-apocalyptic world. It's a gritty blast of sex, horror, sci-fi, and dabbles in various sub-themes like evolution, spirituality, and transhumanism. A comic that strays away from the traditional viral story by accentuating a premeditated reason behind the virus, as opposed to leaving the origin of the outbreak as a common question mark. The pathogen also presents a rather unique trait: it only infects males!"

Under The Flesh was created and written by Gilbert Deltres and illustrated and lettered by J.L.Giles.

You can check out the Under The Flesh pitch on Kickstarter and follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

New In Books: The Last Infection

The young brother and sister have plans of their own, but Chris has heard too many promises of sanctuary and infection free zones. Jenn's arrival turns his attention to the one thing he never thought he would face again, hope. They make a pact to reach the kids safe haven, but only time will tell if anyone can survive the last infection."

The Last Infection is available in paperback now.

The Walking Dead Scores Two EMMY Nominations

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced their nominees for EMMY awards this morning and, shockingly, The Walking Dead did not receive a nomination for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a Series, Miniseries, Movie, or a Special.

However, the Lifetime movie Anna Nicole did.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Other nominees in the prosthetic makeup category are American Horror Story: Coven, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and The Normal Heart.

It also did not receive a nomination for Outstanding Special and Visual Effects. Those nominations went to Almost Human, COSMOS: A SpaceTime Odyssey, Game of Thrones, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and The 100.

Oddly, The Walking Dead received a nomination in the Outstanding Special and Visual Effects in a Supporting Role category, with acknowledgement going to Victor Scalise (VFX Supervisor), Darrell Dean Pritchett (Special FX Supervisor), Matt Robken (VFX Producer), Gary Romey (VFX Coordinator), Martin Hilke (Lead 2D Artist), Diego Galtieri (Senior 2D Artist), Michael Cook (Lead CG Artist), William L. Arance *Senior CG Artist), and Dylen Vasquez (2D Artist). They're up against Black Sails, Da Vinci's Demons, Hawaii Five-O, Mob City, and Vikings.

The Walking Dead also received a nod for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series, with acknowledgement going to Jerry Ross (Supervising Sound Editor), Michael Baber (Music Editor), Tim Farrell (Sound Effects), Lou Thomas (Dialogue Editor), and Clayton Weber (Foley Artist). They're up against Black Sails, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, and Game of Thrones.
