Archie Comics Zombie Movie In The Works?

Warner Bros. has just finalized a deal to produce a live action film featuring the Archie Comics characters and this could quite possibly include a zombie movie.

Deadline.com is reporting:

"Just when Hollywood thinks it’s heard it all comes our news that Warner Bros Pictures last night just closed all deals for a WME-packaged live action movie based on the Archie Comics books. Producing are Roy Lee and Dan Lin while  Jon Goldwater, Krishnan Menon, and Jon Silk are executive producers. Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) has signed on to direct while Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Glee) is writing."

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa wrote the zombie-themed Afterlife with Archie series which is leading to speculation that the movie adaptation could be set in a Riverdale plagued by the living dead.

Pulling off a live action Archie film, one that actually works while staying true to the comic, always seemed like a task that was more trouble than it would be worth.  On the page, Archie works and has worked since 1941, however you just cannot picture it working with real actors on the big screen.

Until now.

Adding the zombie layer on top of Archie's story might be the perfect distraction to get us into the world of Riverdale in a way that makes it work for modern audiences.  There's nothing like a horde of ravenous, rampaging zombies to win the viewer over and get them on your character's side.
